North Fork Forest Recovery Project

Post-fire Recovery and Forest Resilience

Overview

The North Fork Forest Recovery Project (NFFRP) is focused on post-fire recovery and forest resilience across 166,889 acres on the Plumas National Forest that were impacted by the 2021 Dixie Fire.

The project’s dual focus includes:

Community Protection and Strategic Fire Management: Reducing wildfire risks to local communities and infrastructure

Forest and Watershed Resilience: Enhancing long-term ecological function through fuels reduction, reforestation, and watershed restoration

Restoration activities include forest thinning, reforestation, recreation enhancement, and community protection. By integrating science-based forest management with community engagement, Sierra Institute is advancing a comprehensive strategy for ecological resilience and community recovery post-wildfire.

For additional information on the project full details can be found below in the Forest Service Issued Decision Notice and Environmental Assessment.
