Parent & Guardian Information

Learn more about your child’s P-CREW summer experience.

P-CREW offers your child a unique five-week experience! They’ll work 40 hours a week on hands-on conservation projects, guided by experienced crew leaders and resource professionals.

Building Skills for Their Future

Throughout the program, your child will learn from specialists from our partnering agencies. They’ll get insights into the science behind conservation, its impact on the environment, and even hear about different career paths in natural resources. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to understand the importance of networking and explore future job possibilities.

We’ve also partnered with Feather River College to offer P-CREW members a course in Basic Trail Building Techniques. Upon completion, your child can earn college credit towards an Associate’s Degree from Feather River College!

Your Child’s Safety is Our Top Priority

Rest assured, your child’s safety is paramount. All crew members will receive Basic First Aid and CPR certifications. They’ll be trained in essential field safety protocols and how to identify and mitigate job hazards. Our crew leaders are all at least Wilderness First Aid certified, and at least one field crew leader per crew, along with Sierra Institute support staff, are Wilderness First Responder certified. They have extensive experience providing first aid in remote locations. Each crew is also equipped with a Garmin InReach Device. This satellite communication device allows crews to communicate with our support staff even when there’s no cell service. In an emergency, it can alert search and rescue services. Crew leaders check in daily with support staff, and if the InReach’s SOS function is activated, our team is alerted immediately, and Search and Rescue is dispatched directly to their exact location.

A Chance to Disconnect and Grow

Please be aware that your child will have limited access to cell service, and electronics are generally prohibited. We understand this might be a change, but it’s an important part of the P-CREW experience, encouraging them to fully immerse themselves in nature and their work. We’ll keep you updated with weekly parent emails or blog posts so you know what your child is up to. They will have the opportunity to call home once during the program (we will let you know in advance so you can plan to be available).

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
