Our youth programs are gearing up for our summer season and ready to provide youth from Plumas, Butte and Alemeda counties with exciting summer opportunities! This week we’ll focus on Plumas Conservation, Restoration and Education in Watersheds, also know as P-CREW, and what their summer 2017 is shaping up to look like.
What is it P-CREW, you ask? Well, P-CREW takes two groups of 11 diverse students from rural Plumas, Lassen and Butte counties and the East San Francisco Bay Area and places them in Plumas and Lassen National Forest for 5 weeks of conservation work, education and recreation. This is our third year and we are adding a new position of Alumni All-Star Assistant. We are asking a former graduate from our P-CREW program to come back and assist our crew leaders in helping the new P-CREW members adjust to life in the woods, like dealing with no cell phones, only having one shower a week and using the natural facilities of the forest for when nature calls. It’s a whole new way of life out in the woods!
P-CREW is excited to share that two incredibly experienced and talented young women are leading our crew this year. They will take on the challenges of trail work, invasive species removal, educational lessons, backpacking and keeping the crew motivated and safe. The program wouldn’t be the same without exceptional leaders to guide the youth to the best experience possible.
Recruitment for the program has already happened in the East Bay Area. Keep an eye out for the P-CREW presentation at a school near you! We’ll be around Greenville, Quincy, Chester, Portola, Paradise, and Westwood in the next few weeks!
