Volunteering Opportunities

The Sierra Institute is always looking for good volunteers who are interested in community and environment.   There are many different ways to volunteer at Sierra Institute.  Listed below are just a few ways for you to become involved.

°  Be a Tour Volunteer

Volunteering for tours is not only a great way to see this wonderful county of ours, but also provides needed assistance to the Tour Coordinator prior to and after the tour.  Tour volunteers begin the day before the tour helping to assemble the tour paraphernelia with Tour Coordinator.  During the tour, the volunteers will help with setting up snacks and drinks, lunch, helping with other equipment used, and making sure that guests are attended to.  Very often the following Monday of the tour is used for cleaning and re-storing equipment, re-stocking goods, and debriefing of the tour.

°  Office Volunteering

Volunteering in the office can be of significant help to the staff of Sierra Institute.  From web-site updates to archiving of files, there are little to big jobs awaiting those who volunteer in the office.

°  Property Management Volunteer

Sierra Institute is located in Taylorsville on a large piece of property which has 3-houses, a restaurant, several out-buildings and un-used land.  Volunteers are needed for property management projects such as painting, yard maintenance, and other projects around the property.

°  Event Volunteering

Sierra Institute participates in several events throughout the county from art shows to county fairs to farmer's markets.  Volunteers are needed to provide information about Sierra Institute and the work that they are doing in the communities at these various venues.

°  Annual Lake Almanor Clean-Up Project - September 18, 2010

The Third Annual Lake Almanor Clean-Up Project is scheduled for September 18th in 2010 and VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!  This is a great, exciting day for all as we take the time to clean-up the areas around Lake Almanor and its tributaries.  The upper Feather River watershed is the primary source of water for the State Water Project which serves over 23-million Californians.

Meeting at Chester Park in Chester, CA at 9am, volunteers will join teams and go to assigned sites, joining back up again at Chester park where volunteers will be treated to a BBQ to thank everyone for a job well done.

This event is sponsored b ABWAC, PG&E, and the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment with the support of Feather River Coordinated Resource Management, Plumas County Board of Supervisors, Plumas County Dept. of Public Works, and Cal-Trans.
